The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) of Dominica has been established to coordinate an effective regulatory regime to enhance the operation of telecommunications in the interest of the sustainable development of Dominica. The NTRC came into effect following the passing of the Telecommunications Act 2000 No.8 of 2000. Dominica is a signatory to the treaty establishing the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) which was signed in St. George's, Grenada, May 4th. 2000 to promote open competition in telecommunications, to harmonize policies on a regional level for telecommunications, and to provide for a universal service, fair pricing and the use of cost-based pricing methods by telecommunications providers.
Georgian National Communications Commission, established on the 1st July 2000, consists of five members. The members are appointed by the order of the President for the period of six years. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) was established by means of the Telecommunications Law No. 13 of 1995, and its amending temporary law No. 8 of 2002 as an independent jurisdictional body tasked with regulating the telecommunications and information technology sectors. In fulfillment of the provisions of the Postal Services Law No. 34 of 2007. Also TRC started to take responsibility for regulating the postal sector in the Kingdom and monitoring all postal service providers and their compliance with the law. In accordance with the Telecommunications Law, TRC is tasked with “regulating the telecommunications and information technology services in the Kingdom in compliance with the stated policy to guarantee the provision of high-standard ICT services to end user at reasonable prices, and in such a manner as to ensure optimum performance in the ICT sector.” As stipulated in the Telecommunications Law, TRC performs its duties independently of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, but in compliance with the general policy of the government.
The Telecommunications Authority of Maldives has the mandate of regulating the telecommunications sector, creating an environment conducive for promoting competition in telecommunications services and developing these services in accordance with the national Telecom Policy and Maldives Telecommunications Regulation 2003. The Authority is run by a Regulatory Board who is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Maldives Telecommunications Regulation 2003.
