A repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal and retransmits it at a higher level and/or higher power, or onto the other side of an obstruction, so that the signal can cover longer distances without degradation.

Repeaters can be used to extend or redirect radio coverage.Repeaters can be a simple remote amplifier or an intelligent device.Repeaters are located within the radio coverage area of another base station. The device will amplify any incoming sinal and retransmit the signal. The advantage is that the antennas can be located a longer distance from the BTS and it can also provide a greater link budget advantage. This translates into greater coverage-fewer cell sites required.A portion of the RF energy is received, processed and retransmitted
