Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying is used because it increases spectral efficiency with sharper cutoff, excellent power efficiency due to constant envelope.

An important issue in designing modulation schemes is low out-of-band radiation because it effects high spectrum efficiency and increases channel interference.

And Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying is used because it increases spectral efficiency with sharper cutoff, excellent power efficiency due to constant envelope. The constant envelope allows the use of simple power amplifiers and the low out-of-band radiation minimizes the effect of adjacent channel interference.
