BTS is a Base Transceiver Station and acting as a bridge between the mobile device and the rest of the Mobile Network. It provides wireless access to the mobile customer the radio channel. BTS is controled by the BSC or MSC. It has several Antennas for transmission and Receiving both on the uplink and the downlink.

BTS is a Base Transceiver Station. Its purpose is to handle the radio interface to the mobile user , radio interface is an air interface using which the mobile subscriber or a mobile user is connected to the BTS and BTS further connects the user to the rest of Mobile network.
BTS comprises of Transceivers, antennas. Transceivers send/receive signals to serve the cell to provide mobile service to thr user. BTS also has a Hardware rack in which multiple cards are installed for various purpose to support the service being provided to the users. BTS itself connected back to the BSC.

Base Transceiver Station (BTS)
The BTS controls the radio interface to the MS. The BTS comprises the
radio equipment such as transceivers and antennas which are needed to
serve each cell in the network. A group of BTSs are controlled by a BSC.

Base Tranceiver Station. Technical term for a mobile phone base station. A BTS contains the transmit and receive technology and also the aerials to supply a radio cell. Several BTSs are administered by a BSC (Base Station Controller), which is in turn under an MSC (Mobile Switching Center).

It stands for Base Transceiver Station.
Mobile phone base station is technically called BTS.It transmits and receive the radio signal through the aerials mounted on the tower generally.

Hi! I’m not an expert on BTS exactly but it can be expanded as Base Transceiver Station (BTS) - The name for the antenna and radio equipment necessary to provide wireless service in an area. Also called a base station or cell site.

BTS=Base Tranceiver Station,We generally see the telecom towers and call them as the "operators Towers" like Airtel Tower,Vodafone Tower etc.But if you have seen the towers carefully you would have seen a shelter beneath the tower.Inside that shelter resides the actual equipment responsible for modulation-demodulation,coding-encoding,error correction -detection some times the decisions like resources allocation e.g power and all will be taken care by this equipment only. This equipment receives as well as transmits(obviously through antennaes) so thats why it is called as the Tranceiver, and it is called as base transceiver station(BTS).
In simple words you can visualize yhis equipment as an interface between the Mobile Station and the Radio Access network.I hope this answers your question in brief.

For a non-telecom person.

you can simply think the place where your call first goes when you call some person.
