VOIP is used in many technologies but it is very cheap and as well as on ip it works and perform good result so GSM and CDMA adopt it but till no one make it implement

its not implemented yet but we have mpls at our backbones nowadays. plz visit the link below, it give u some help

Voip is not yet the solution in these networks, but it will play a good role in future.

Actually before a voice call starts, the resources needed will be reserved and for that some control messages will be exchanged. These control transmissions needs to be fast enough to discard any possibility related to the delay perception by human being. This is also called as the signaling.Initially the signaling protocol used were ATM,Frame Relay then the wireless world moved to SS7 which was really fast.
Now since its an era of IP technology
we now want each and every node in the wireless world to be connected through IP so that existing internet mesh can be used in providing the voice services over long distances,I mean we dont need a backbone network if we are going to use the IP method. So thats why every operator is now moving for IP enabled Base Stations rather than going for the conventional methods.

VOIP play big role in GSM and CDMA technology. The back bone structure that is currently being build for calls to go from one MSC to other MSC is changing into VOIP and even BTS to BSC communication changes to VOIP. Even UMA will use VOIP to take the calls from Home to MSC. So VOIP is will take a big role in next 3 years but right not the transition is taking place. If you need more specific answer search please ask again.
