A bus is a slot on your computer’s motherboard into which you insert cards. Technically, the name of the slot is expansion slot, and the bus is the data path along which information flows to the card.
Although motherboard NICs are the most common type of network connections, you have several other options available.e.g

->USB connectors
->PC cards for laptops
