Launched in 1997, New World Mobility ('NWM') offers a wide range of quality, value-for-money GSM mobile services including voice services, customized value-added services and mobile prepaid services. NWM deployed the EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) network and introduced the Push-to-Talk over Cellular service "Press 'n Talk" in 2004; "Video-on-the-move" video infotainment service in 2005; and "Mobile ESPN" as well as "BubbleTalk" services in June and July 2006 respectively. Hong Kong CSL Limited and New World PCS Limited are wholly owned by the merged entity CSL New World Mobility Group, which was established in April 2006. The major shareholders of CSL New World Mobility Group are Australian telecommunications company Telstra Corporation Limited (76.4%) and New World Mobile Holdings Limited (23.6%).
EMOBILE Ltd. was established in January 2005. Subsequently in November 2005, the Company was awarded a mobile license as a new operator for the first time in 12 years. EMOBILE Ltd. launches the service in Spring 2007, entering the mobile industry with fresh vision. Japanese broadband services lagged behind. However, the introduction of ADSL service led the broadband growth, and Japan achieved the world's highest fixed-line broadband penetration rate. The Internet access shifted from narrowband to broadband, and voice communication shifted from fixed to mobile.
