BTC Mobile was established in June 2004 when Bugarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) received GSM license by Communications Regulation Commission. In May 2005 BTC received UMTS license, and in June 2005 – BTC Mobile signed contracts for mutual connection with the other two mobile networks in Bulgaria.

VIPnet is the first private mobile network operator in Croatia. It has been operating a GSM network since 1999. Since its arrival, VIPnet has broken the monopoly of CRONET (since renamed to T-Mobile Hrvatska, and owned by Hrvatski Telekom) and introduced many new services unknown before - SMS, prepaid and others.

Telefónica O2 Czech Republic is the largest telecommunications company in the Czech Republic. It operates the Czech fixed-line network, the only Czech CDMA network, one of the three Czech GSM networks and one of the three Czech UMTS networks. Previously two companies, fixed-line operator Český Telecom and mobile operator Eurotel, it was acquired by the Spanish company Telefónica in 2005 and merged into a single legal entity and given its present name on 1 July 2006. The company is run by Telefónica's European mobile business Telefónica O2 Europe plc. and the CEO of the Czech unit is Salvador Anglada Gonzalez.
