BIPT supervises two economic sectors: * the postal sector and * the telecommunications sector, now called electronic communications. BIPT exercises its powers through two kinds of activities in particular: * The first concerns new regulatory tasks in the liberalised telecommunications markets. BIPT makes the necessary arrangements in order that the regulatory framework is observed, competition can develop fully and fairly, certain tasks of public interest are carried out and consumer interests are protected. * The second concerns the exercise of supreme authority in specific technical fields. Certain resources, such as the electromagnetic spectrum or the numbering space, are scarce: a regulator is required to share, regulate and monitor their use with accuracy. The Institute carries out yet more technical tasks of public interest.

The Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) is an independent statutory Authority which was created by the ICTA Law, 2002 and is responsible for the regulation and licensing of Telecommunications, Broadcasting, and all forms of radio which includes ship, aircraft, mobile and amateur radio. The ICTA conducts the administration and management of the .ky domain, and also has a number of responsibilities under the Electronic Transactions Law 2000. With the enactment of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Authority Law on 17th May 2002, the Cayman Islands became one of the first countries in the world to officially recognise the convergence of telephony, radio and broadcasting, the Internet and e-business.

EETT is the National Regulatory Authority, which supervises and regulates the telecommunications as well as the postal services market. EETT's institutional purpose is to promote the development of the two sectors, to ensure the proper operation of the relevant market in the context of sound competition and to provide for the protection of the interests of the end-users. EETT is an independent self- funded decision-making body. stablished in 1992 by Act 2075 under the name The National Telecommunications Commission (EET), EET actually commenced its operation in summer 1995. It was primarily responsible for the supervision of the liberalized telecommunications market. Moreover, since the adoption of Act 2668/98, which provides for the organization and operation of the postal services sector, EET was entrusted with the supervision and regulation of the postal services market and was renamed as National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT). EETT's supervising and regulatory role was further enforced by Act 2867/2000.

Ríkisútvarpið RUV - The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service - is an independent public service broadcaster, formally owned by the Icelandic state. It started operation in 1930. RUV is financially independent, its principal sources of income being the licence fee and revenues from advertisements. RUV's income can only be allocated for broadcasting purposes. RUV operates one television channel and two radio channels that cover the whole of Iceland.

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) is an independent statutory body responsible for a number of key areas of activity with regard to television and radio services in Ireland. The role and functions of the BCI are set out in a range of provisions contained in the Radio and Television Act, 1988, the Broadcasting Act, 2001 and the Broadcasting (Funding) Act, 2003. The functions of the Commission under the 1988 Act can generally be described as licensing, monitoring and developmental work.

The Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter – RRT) is an independent national institution regulating communications sector in Lithuania. It was established under the Law on Telecommunications and the provisions of the European Union Directives. One of the main purposes of RRT establishment is competition promotion in electronic communications and postal sectors. In all European Union countries, the role of the national regulator of communications is crucial in regulating relationship amongst communications market participants, in creating effective competition conditions for undertakings, in defending interests of service users as well as in promoting the advent of new and modern technologies and use of services at the national level.
