It is a global Digital Cellular System for mobile communications-based PCS networks used outside of the U.S.The DSC-1800 and DCS-1900 are both GSM systems. The difference between the DCS-1800 and DCS-1900 systems is the frequency of operation.

A DCS-1800 is a digital standard based on GSM technology with the exception that this type of system operates at a higher frequency range, 1800 MHz. The DGS-1800 technology is intended for use in PCN systems, such as those used commonly in Germany and England. The DSC-1800 and DCS-1900 are both GSM systems. The difference between the DCS-1800 and DCS-1900 systems is the frequency of operation. The DCS-1800 operates in the 1800-MHz band and is normally used in European systems. The DCS-1900 is a GSM system that operates in the U.S. wideband PCS frequency band at 1900 MHz.
