the standard distance defined between CO(central office) & telephone is the distance b/w CO and telephone is in between 5-10 Kms because it varies as well in DSL also to gain max speed so it is standardized by DSL and by othere

10km is the standard distance in 64kbps speed lines.

Distance between CO and Telephone basically varies with the quality and gauge of the copper wire.So the standard distance could be upto 6-10 km.
